Hello Peeps.  Haven't posted in a while as I was on vacation celebrating my 50th birthday with my hubby.  :)

I also celebrate that I have managed to run four 5 k's this week.  Two of those workouts during my trip to Vegas.  :) :) :)  Very happy about that!  Not bad for a 50 year old lady with rheumatoid right?

My knee is much better :)   Forgot to take my Enbrel injection this week (didn't bring it with me on vacation).  Hope it doesn't increase my pain next week  :(

If any of you have rheumatoid or any other form of auto-immune disease (like lupus, etc..) and are running,  I would love to hear your stories!

Had to wear an ice pack on my knee at work.  :(

Bilateral knee pain I believe from that crazy stairbclimber and elliptical workout I had last week.

Today I could do one mile of jogging at 5 mph and 1/2 mile of walking at 3.8 mph then I had to stop due to knee pain :O  Thought I had rested enough (had four days off )

So instead, for the last 10 minutes I worked with hand weights and gave my upper back and triceps a workout.

Got to keep on, keeping on.

Keep on moving!

Helen from Hevil's Delights interviewed my son about his band "Revolt With Reason" at Sac State :)

See her great Blog and see interview at http://helenssugarsweetrecipes.blogspot.com/2013/04/revolt-with-reason-interview-with-tyler.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HevilsSpecialDelights+%28Hevil%27s+Special+Delights%29

and try her agave peanut butter balls :)
Hello Peeps.  3.25 miles on the treadmill with 1 mile of it incline at 10 and speed 3.5 then changed up to 6 mph at zero incline.

I am giving myself a slow and steadily increasing warm up now as I seem to much better when I do it.  I've always known you should do a good warm up and cool down but I have been skipping that part for the last year because I feel so rushed all the time.

You know, got to get that workout in.

Pain scale during treadmill 5/10 then an hour after 1/10.  Love that exercise.

Be a doer AND a dreamer. :)

Have a great day people.

Been taking a supplement called Phosphatidylserine.  I take it because supposedly it helps prevent Alzheimer's which my mother has and my grandmother had.

It has so much positive research. I found articles that it also enhances your athletic performance.

According to the articles you are supposed to take 100 mg 3 times a day but since I am THE worst at remembering to take supplements I bought a 300 mg pill and take it once a day.

I truly feel like it has improved my memory. I seem to remember peoples names now.  I am getting an A in my computer networking class and remembering all the terms.

But I wonder if it is messing with my Enbrel.  I seem to have more joint pain and now I have stiffness in my fingers, ankles and ball of feet.  It is not extreme pain but it is a deep ache.

I e-mailed my doctor to see if she knows of any drug interactions with Enbrel and Phosphatidylserine.

I woke up at 2 am unable to get back to sleep so I looked it up and it does cause insomnia :(...    But to me this is a small price to pay for preventing Alzheimer's.

If you are taking this supplement please comment.  Would love to hear if it works for you.

Coolest drummer I knowRead on article in the American College of Sports Medicine Journal.  It was regarding overweight post-menopausal women and muscle mass loss.

It compared weight loss techniques with just diet -vs- diet with exercise and the conclusion surprised me.  The women that lose weight with just diet actually also lost muscle mass :o    The women who dieted WITH exercise kept their muscle mass.  INTERESTING I wouldn't of guessed it.

I am not post-menopause yet, but good to know that all this exercise will be paying off.

Crazy workout today.  Did the Stair climber, elliptical and running.  I felt like I needed to get out of the same work out.   Wow did I sweat!!!

It occurred to me today... if nothing is difficult then nothing would be easy.

Life is about breathing in the highs and lows and it is about perspective.

Happy Evening :)

My time today 30:23!! :) :) I knocked 3 minutes off my time.  Can't believe it!  I think it was those extra one mile days I put in last month.  I would do sprints when I did it.

I read the results and can't believe there was a 89 year old that got 26 minutes!!! Wow !  He should write a book on his success!

Have so much fun doing those 5 k's.  It is usually to raise money for some organization and it is such a positive thing to do.  Lot's of freebies afterwards as well. There was a great band playing jazzy blues kind of thing.

Overall a beautiful day.

Ran 5 K today at Santa Anita Racetrack with hubby, son and Father in law!  Think I did better than I thought.  I was trying to just break 34 min, but when I came in it said 31 something.  I will have official results probably by tomorrow along with pics.  :)

Happy Day to you all!

POST how you stay motivated to exercise with RA here....

POST your first RA symptoms story here .....

Would love to hear your stories.
People learn from those stories.  I learned so much from other people.
Kidney function improved since the last GFR.  :) yay

2 days ago 4 miles on the treadmill :)

yesterday interval training up to 7 mph with strength training. Getting ready for Saturday's 5 K.

Just received the new physical copy of this issue of the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) Journal. :) Can't wait to read.

Had fun with my mother visiting this last 3 weeks. I have been so blessed to have her as a mother.  She is funny too, makes me laugh.  I still see quite a bit of her sharpness through all that Alzheimer's symptoms.  She likes to tell me about when she was a little girl. She loved her grandparents. Her father's parents were from Germany, the Froelich's and her mother's parents were from England, the Bray's.   Being from America you have so many different heritages, it's kind of fun to hear about them all.  My father's ancestors are from Ireland, the McDonough's.

Anyway, would love to hear some of your first symptoms stories of RA and how you continue to lead the active lifestyle that you want.  Please comment.

Aimed for 31 of 31 days in March and ended up with exercising 23 or 31.  It is what it is.  Think I will try to go everyday again in May when my life is not so hectic.  Right now in April I aim to run 3 to 4 Five K's a week. Goals, goals. goals, keeps me going.
